What’s A Girl To Do?
Our culture thrives on mixed signals and contradictions. We tell our daughters how to act and what we expect of them. And, we give them few, if any, tools and models, to guide them on their journey from girlhood to womanhood.
How does a girl go about finding her own power as a young woman?
How does she get in touch with how she is feeling in a way that empowers her to respond in a way that aligns with her values? Does she even really know what her personal values are? Or does she just go along with the crowd because she is wanting to belong, even if she is unsure what that means to her.
This experiential workshop for girls in grades 6, 7, and 8, uses the latest research in neuroscience and pulls from the ancient wisdom traditions. The curriculum gives each participant:
- Time to get to know what fits for her and what does not
- What brings joy and what does not
- What she is really wanting in her life right now
- How to be with her emotions without pushing them away or merging with them
- How to tap into her own power to safely explore her world and the people, places, and things around her, to discover who really she is.
Each girl receives is set of inner tools to use as she experiences the world. These include:
- Inner awareness & contemplative exercises
- Energy directing techniques
- Movement and drawing exercises
- Vision boarding – using collage and found objects
These tools help her to choose among the possibilities she finds in her daily life. She knows what feels right for her. She learns she can be both open to new feelings and experiences while also being authentic in and respectful to her feelings and values.
